Back in the hot August days, we’ve sent out an extensive survey and were humbled to receive so many responses. As promised, we are sharing the highlights of the survey with you.
Your biggest passion? Traveling. Collectively, you've been to more than 60 different countries! The most visited (in this order) are: Canada, France, Italy, UK, Spain, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Israel, Mexico, and Poland. And the most exotic: Japan, New Zealand, Chile, Peru, Egypt, India, Jordan, Morocco, and South Africa. When asked about the ideal vacation, the majority chose “exploring Europe on my own”, followed by “traveling to exotic locals off the tourist path”. A lot of people prefer spending their vacation going down the slopes or hiking up the mountains and only very few voted for Caribbean all-inclusive paradise (we could use that right now, actually). You LOVE reading. A large majority said reading is ABSOLUTELLY one of their favorite past-times. When asked to name the titles you’ve enjoyed recently, you provided dozens of top quality reads from Kama Sutra to Nietzsche. This instantly turned into an excellent reading list. We have posted few of your recommendations in our new section Reading Lounge. It’s a place where you can get ideas on what to read next and share your opinion on the books you love …or hate. Things you “love to do” weren’t limited to traveling and reading alone. Other activities that got on your “passions” list were dancing, skiing, camping, yoga, cooking, independent movies, learning foreign languages and cultures, guitar playing, classical music, photography, writing, shopping, and …sex. Thanks to those who included “love-making” on their list. Social Life and Entertainment. Ideal Saturday night scenario for many of you is NOT to stay home. Most people would prefer to have their Saturday evening planned in advance. The second most popular choice was “to go to someone's party and get drunk” followed in order of descending preference by a “dinner at a nice restaurant in the city”, “clubbing and bar-hopping”, and “enjoying a rented movie at home”. There was a surprising fall out of answers to the question asking to choose between four free events including live Russian rock-star concert, Opera “Cyrano de Bergerac”, Flamenco show, and Cirque du Soleil. Live rock concert was NOT the top choice as we expected. Instead, the largest percentage remained “undecided” as they found all four choices equally appealing. Other votes divided equally between Cirque du Soleil and Russian rock concert. Opera and Flamenco were the least popular choices. A surprising fact we could not help registering: of 15 people who voted for Cirque du Soleil and Flamenco show 10 were guys -- an unexpected appreciation of all things spectacular from a stronger sex! On Relationships. The majority of you agreed that “meeting the right person in New York for serious relationship is “difficult” while others insisted it was “relatively easy”. This got us wondering: when it happens “relatively easy” is it luck, destiny, or a special know-how? OK, let's save this discussion for another time. On RussianMix Parties. Since RussianMix inception in 2001, more guys checked them out than girls. However, among frequent goers (more than 3 times) girls lead by 50%. This means? Girls are more reluctant to come, but once they do, they frequent RussianMix parties more often than guys. 69% of you said RussianMix parties are “OK to go to from time to time” and 14% “can't wait for the next one”! You also provided a healthy doze of constructive criticism on our choice of venues, music selection, crowd size, and volume control. We are glad you cared enough to say what you really think. Your comments are a great motivation to us. We promise the best RussianMix parties are yet to come! Money, Money. Your answers to the question “what would be your first monetary transaction if you won a 10 million lottery” boiled down to several main categories in this order of majority votes: buy real estate, pay debts including student loans and mortgage, travel around the world, throw a big party, donate to charity, and invest money. Whoever offered to buy a building in East Village and donate it to RussianMix please come forward! “When I was little…” We truly enjoyed reading about who you wanted to be when you were little. All professions got covered, from garbage man, slesar'-montajnik, lesnik, tickets usher, and general’s wife, to space explorer and doctor. Matching these childhood dreams with your current occupations presented some intriguing parallels: a super hero became an accountant, the head of the Soviet Union owns his own business, a pilot works at the insurance company, a ballerina developed a knack for financial analysis, slesar'-montajnik turned into no less than a banker, and Robinson Crusoe found himself in the world of Publishing. At least 5 people fulfilled their childhood dreams as in “wanted to be a lawyer, became a lawyer”. Kudos to the ones who always knew where they were going!
