Blending the bright palette of pop, the flatness of anime, and the ominous dreams of surrealism, Japanese artist Takashi Murakami creates work that bridges fine art, design, animation, fashion, and popular culture. Now, in the most comprehensive retrospective of the internationally acclaimed artist to date, the Brooklyn Museum presents more than 90 pieces that encompass a variety of media and span the artist’s entire career, installed in more than 18,500 square feet of gallery space. Selected works include the 23-foot high sculpture Tongari-kun and the painting Tan Tan Bo.
