Ansambl Mastika (ansamblmastika.com, myspace.com/ansamblmastika) will bring Brooklyn’s New Balkan Uproar to Rose Live Music, for a dance party so kickin’ it’s gotta be called, Balkan Funky.
Every third Wednesday you can expect Ansambl Mastika and special musical guests to throw down with song styles ranging from the heart-wrenching clarinet 'miroloi' of northern Greece to the funkier dance grooves of the Serbian and Macedonian Roma (gypsies); from the oriental mystery of Turkish ?algi ensembles to the driving power of Bulgarian wedding bands. The Balkan character of Ansambl Mastika’s music is undeniable. It is made all the more powerful for its originality. Coming from such influential NYC-based groups as Slavic Soul Party!, the Zagnut Orkestar, and Romashka, the musicians of Ansambl Mastika bring a fresh perspective that maintains the tradition of getting audiences out of their seats and onto the dance floor.
