MEN AND WOMEN COME TO GRIPS IN FINAL SHOWDOWN!
The NY Golden Arm Series Finale held at Port Authority Bus Terminal on Nov. 13
New York, New York Sept. 29, 2008 -- The New York Arm Wrestling Association will present the 31st Annual White Castle Empire State Golden Arm Tournament of Champions to be held at the Port Authority Bus Terminal (North Wing/Main Concourse) at 625 8th Avenue New York, NY. on Thursday, November 13, 2008 beginning at 12:30 p.m. Over 100 men and women will compete for the chance to be crowned Empire State Golden Arm Champion and spectators have an opportunity to watch the event for free. Competition is open to the public and entries fees are $25 for amateurs, $35 for pros and include a free T-shirt. There will be amateur and pro weight classes for men and women and contestants are asked to weigh-in and register before noon. The proud sponsors are White Castle, Super Cuts and New York.com
First, second and third place finishers will receive custom engraved Olympic-size medallions and $100 cash prizes will be given to first place winners of the pro categories. Male and female “Strongest Arm” MVP’s will be crowned with a bonus $300 cash prize and the NYC Arm Wrestler of the year will also be chosen.
"The Empire State Golden Arm Championship is New York City’s oldest and most prestigious sought-after title”, said Gene Camp, founder and president of the New York Arm Wrestling Association (NYAWA).” Camp continued, “This event is a culmination of our 31st anniversary season and it’s going to be a very exciting to watch because the event is loaded with top talent from all over the tri-state area and far beyond.” The Empire State Championship is the final event of the New York Golden Arm Series where four preliminary championships were held this year for both amateurs and pros.
This event will feature contestants those who qualified from each of the five NYC Boroughs, Long Island and beyond. Among those expected to compete are the NYC Big Apple Grapple Champions Mirline Berrouet from South Ozone Park, Queens, who also is the 07 Empire State defending champion and 07 NYC Arm Wrestler of the year. Berrouet has won more than 15 professional arm wrestling titles in her career. Another champion expected to compete is Marcio Barboza from Brazil who outdid himself last year by pounding the competition with his uncanny ability to ‘flash pin’ (win in a second) all comers with brute strength and lightning speed. The 2007 Empire State Champions will also return to defend their titles and the 2008 NYC Big Apple Grapple champions will be featured in this multi-talented high profile arm wrestling event. Contestants and teams are expected to compete from far away as England, Russia and Brazil.
