Description

Join us for the Brooklyn premiere of Jascha Heifetz: God’s Fiddler, the sole documentary on one of the greatest violinists of all time. This film features Heifetz family home movies and photos from 1903-1987. Sponsored by the Colburn School, EuroArts, WDR, Arte, Peter Rosen’s film portrays an artist for whom only perfection would do, a musical virtuoso who set the standards for nearly a century.

Heifetz was a prestigious concert artist so well known in popular culture, his name became shorthand for greatness. This unique film includes interviews with the great violinists of his generation, as well as many of his former students, describing how Heifetz was a legendary but mysterious figure whose story expresses the dual nature of artistic genius: the enigma of how a mortal man lives with immortal gifts – gifts he must honor, but which extract a lifelong price.

“When I spoke with him, I thought, ‘I can’t believe it. I’m talking with God’” -Itzhak Perlman

Presentation by Peter Rosen.
