About Claude Lelouch
Claude Lelouch was born on October 30th, 1937 in Paris. His father was an Algerian Jew and his mother was a convert to Judaism. His father gave him a camera to give him a fresh start after his failure in the baccalaureate. Starting his career as a reporter, Lelouch was one of the first journalists to film daily life in the U.S.S.R., a camera hidden under his coat as he made his personal journey.
His film, Un Homme et Une Femme, was met with favour. Legend has it that Lelouch found himself one morning on the beach at Deauville when he caught sight of a young woman and her child on the sand. He contemplated about her story, tried to concoct the story of how she had arrived at that moment, and the scenario for the film was born. Lelouch set in place some of the filiming techniques used throughout his career. The 1981 musical epic Les Uns et les Autres is widely considered his masterpiece, and his credits now include nearly 50 films.
