SUMMARY:The Minority Question at the 1919 Peace Conference
DESCRIPTION:former lands of the defeated Russian, Habsburg, and Ottoman empires.  The Conference’s construction of states by designating some peoples “majority” nations and others “minority” peoples met resistance in both Europe and the Middle East.  Our speakers challenge the common view that conflict is endemic to Balkan, Islamic, Slavic or Arab culture to offer historical explanations that imply new approaches to bringing peace today.
