SUMMARY:Grapevine
DESCRIPTION:Details are still being negotiated, but here's what we're looking at:
Julia's wine list is getting an exciting makeover. Monique Mattox, the Club's wonderful Wine and Food Manager, is introducing a number of new selections to the wine list, and she is enthusiastic about the quality and the bargain prices at which the Club is acquiring and offering them. So am I.
On the evening of January 9th, the Grapevine will have a chance to preview six of the most outstanding wines that will be new to the list. Monique has settled on four of them, with two more to be decided. Those already selected are
2016 Robert Talbot 'Kali Hart' Pinot Noir, Monterey
(This has long been a favorite of mine)...from Sleepy Hollow Vineyard fruit, with bright cherry, spice, and ripe acidity.
2014 Ladera 'Pillow Road Vyd' Pinot Noir, Russian River Valley- rated 91 to 94pts. in many publications: cherry, cola, spice...earthy with lush texture.
2014 Ch Paveil de Luze, Margaux-  a five-generation Margaux Bordeaux. Earthy, elegant, dark cherry, raspberry, full bodied.
2003 Domaine Georges Brunet 'Cuvee du Paradis,' Vouvray. Small production, Loir Valley, 100% Chenin Blanc.. Desert-style wine but with plenty of acidity.
Two other wines have yet to be selected, but stay tuned.
The Club will provide bread and cheese and its usual wonderful ambience. For a change, you needn't bring a bottle of wine. The charge will be $35 per member, $40 per guest.
Julia's wine rep and his district manager will be attending the event and will be prepared to discuss the wines briefly and to answer questions.
Make early reservations. I expect this tasting to be heavily attended.
Cheers,
Emmett
