SUMMARY:Russian Spies or Political Scapegoats? The Trial and Execution of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg
DESCRIPTION:The Soviet Union was frantically attempting to build its own nuclear weapon. In 1951 two Americans, Julius and Ethel Rosenberg, were convicted of conspiracy to commit espionage by a jury in the Southern District of New York (confirmed on several appeals) for their role in providing the Soviet Union with classified information about building an atomic bomb. In one of the most controversial episodes of the Cold War, the Rosenbergs were executed for their crimes.
Prof. Richard Weisberg, Cardozo Law’s Walter Floersheimer Professor of Constitutional Law, moderates a conversation with the Rosenbergs’ son, Robert Meeropol, and actress Lindsay Crouse, a star of the film Daniel (a movie exploring the trial and execution of the Rosenbergs and featuring Timothy Hutton, Ed Asner, Mandy Patinkin, and Amanda Plummer).
The movie Daniel will be screened at 4pm in the Third Floor Lounge prior to the conversation at 6:30pm in the Jacob Burns Moot Court Room.
Reception to follow the 6:30pm event
LOCATION:Cardozo School of Law - Jacob Burns Moot Court Room, 55 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY
