SUMMARY:After-Hours Tour @ Eldridge Street Synagogue with Rare Artifacts Showcase
DESCRIPTION:public, and see one of the most beautiful interior spaces the city has to offer.
Join New York Adventure Club for a private, after-hours exploration of the Museum at Eldridge Street — opened in 1887, the landmarked Eldridge Street Synagogue is the first great house of worship built in America by Jewish immigrants from Eastern Europe.
Led by the museum's Manager of Education, our unique experience through this breathtaking synagogue will include:

The origin story of the Eldridge Street Synagogue and what 1880s life in the Lower East Side was like for its congregation, which descended from the first congregation of Russian Jews in America
A multi-floor exploration of the landmarked synagogue to see its most historic rooms, from the stabilized ruins of a 100-year-old bathroom to the breathtaking main sanctuary defined by a monumental stained-glass window designed by Kiki Smith
An exclusive trip outside to the backside of the synagogue's Torah ark, complete with its own fireproof roof
A rare look at religious and architectural objects brought out from the archive
