SUMMARY:Infection Control & Occupational Safety for the Dental Team
DESCRIPTION:including the CDC's 2003 Guidelines. The Infection Control part of the program provides understanding of the science, device selection, practical applications, aseptic techniques and practice standards that is required as a background in understanding and implementing federally required Occupational Safety Standards within the dental practice. Highlights in Infection Control are the Rationale, Common & Emerging Infectious Diseases, Handwashing, PPE, Surface Barriers, Use-Misuse & Selection of Germicides, Instrument Reprocessing & Process Validation, and Dental Treatment Water Contamination Control. The main OSHA Topics will include Bloodborne Pathogen Standards, Hazard Communication, and Building & Equipment Safety.
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this integrated program in Dental Infection Control & Occupational Safety, participants will understand current concepts in dental safety, meaningful application of aseptic techniques in a dental setting, understand the relationship between Infection Control Procedures and OSHA Rules, and finally the implication of Federal Rules in Occupational Safety pertaining to dental practice.
Course Presenter:

Dr. Raghunath (Ragu) Puttaiah is a Tenured Professor at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry. He is a Public Health Dentist and was the recipient of the first Johnson & Johnson Medical Inc. Post Graduate Fellowship in Infectious Disease Control in Dentistry. Dr. Puttaiah crafted the Dental SafetyStandards for India and has helped the Russian Federation in developing standards in Dental Safety. He has published research and review papers actively in peer-review journals. Dr. Puttaiah is involved in device development and evaluation and has been a scientific resource for over 25 dental industries. He is an ad hoc reviewer for lead journals in dentistry. He has provided over a 100 CDE programs worldwide and has been a keynote speaker at many national and international specialty meetings. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentistry.

Continental breakfast and a light lunch will be provided in the 6th floor lobby area.
     CDE Credits:  4 Hours provided for Dental Infection Control only
     Training in Occupational Safety:  2 Hours
     Total Training Time: 6 Hours*
     *No CDE Provided for OSHA Training as it is a federal requirement to be trained annually*

All payments by check or cash are deposited into the Texas A&M account  and CANNOT be refunded.  “No Shows” for a course  forfeit all tuition.
