SUMMARY:Lost City (Pravilna) and High Peters Kill Trail
DESCRIPTION:marked trails in the Lost City. This time I'd like to cover less territory, and see the area more thoroughly. The Lost City seems as tough as you make it. There are unmarked but evident paths to the top, but it would be enjoyable to rock scramble the rocks at the base of the top as well. Because of this, it would be good to have experienced adult hikers for the scrambling, and any children and guardians on the hike sticking to the more obvious upward paths. Be advised that there are wide and deep crevasses at the top as well, and no guard rails. Let's go to the top first and follow the ledge, then go down and rock scramble below. From the Lost City, let's hike west on the High Peters Kill trail west into Minnewaska State Preserve for about three miles and back. This will give back views of the Millbrook part of the Shawangunk escarpment, and maybe some small waterfalls as well. The sizable Awosting Falls is nearby for those who want to hike a little further. The foliage was not yet peak the previous weekend, but it may be optimal this weekend. The forecast is "mostly sunny". Total mileage will probably be at or under 10 miles. There is a $15 preserve usage fee. I don't plan on any night hiking, but bring a head lamp just in case. Time permitting, we might go to a local microbrewery for dinner and drinks afterward.

How to find us: Meeting place is the main Visitors' Center at the southern end of the Mohonk Preserve. The Coxing Trailhead is much closer to the Lost City and you are welcome to try to park there, but it is small and fills up very quickly on peak weekends.
