SUMMARY:Southern Minnewaska State Park -  Falls, Lake and Escarpment
DESCRIPTION:It might be nice to hike the southern part of the escarpment (pictured) as well. We'll park at the park's parking area on the top side of the hill (NOT the larger one below at the park entrance, where Awosting Falls is) NLT 10am, then hike the carriage road SW to Lake Awosting. We'll do a short out-and-back hike N. of the lake to see Stony Kills Falls, then back to the lake SW to Mud Pond. We'll then head E. to the escarpment via Mud Pond Trail, then move along it back to the parking lot via Awosting Reserve Loop Trail. You may swim in Lake Awosting and link up with the rest of us coming back from the escarpment or at the parking lot, but there probably won't be time to see the falls, swim AND hike the escarpment. There are microbreweries in Kerhonkson on the road N., then SW out of the park. I haven't been to these, but I hear they're good, and driving that way will give a rear view of the 'Gunks on the drive out. They will probably be open again by the time of the trip. I was thinking of going to Rough Cut (the first one on the way out of the preserve).

How to find us: UPPER parking lot up the hill; there are restrooms and other small buildings nearby.
