DESCRIPTION: 

In the late 19th century, Nesterov sought to depict the ideal Russian Romantic hero, a Nordic version of what is known as a Romantic hero in European art. A religious man, he delved into religious-philosophical topics.  After the Bolshevik revolution, he was forced to abandon such subjects as unsuitable and turned to portraiture.  Nesterov’s portraits featured leading artists, critics, and scientists – the real heroes of his time.


About Anna Katalkina: 

Born and raised in St. Petersburg, Russia, Anna lived in London, UK and Birmingham, AL before moving to Washington, DC area in 2002. She holds a MA in Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies from Georgetown University (2014) and a BA in French Language and Culture from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2000). 

Anna is an artist, trained at the University of Alabama - Birmingham, the Corcoran College of Art and Design, and the studio of Robert White (Maroger technique), and is currently following independent study with Judy Southerland. Her full biography and work can be viewed at www.annakatalkina.com.
