SUMMARY:The Story of An Unknown Man, Anton Chekhov
DESCRIPTION:A lot of great novels and short stories still on our list that we haven’t gotten to yet (and always open for suggestions!), so we are excited to keep the momentum going with this wonderful group and to continue on to unread pages.  For the next book club, we will be reading “The Story of an Unknown Man” by Anton Chekhov, the third story in “The Complete Short Novels” set.  We have already read the first two novellas in this collection. (Translation: Pevear & Volokhonsky translation in "The Complete Short Novels of Chekhov." Other good translations include those from One World House.) The Story of An Unknown Man” (1893) Also translated as “Story of a Nobody” is a novella that explores the concepts of revolutionary fervor, and terrorism.  It is one of the only Chekov works to be set in Saint Petersburg and focuses on an assassin sent to terminate a government official.  He takes the role of a servant in the target’s household and for reasons that will be revealed,  finds it increasingly difficult to complete his mission. Let's plan on reading the entire novella for the next book club, which should be doable as it is around 100 pages.   The discussion will continue on in the manner which it has the past couple of years, so we look forward to seeing both old faces and meeting folks who had just joined.  Of course, please let us know if you have any tips or suggestions for improving the experience.  We look forward to organizing the meetings and to facilitating the next period of great discussions!
