SUMMARY:Justice and SDG16: National Civil Society Advocacy Workshop
DESCRIPTION:10017
Breakfast, coffee and lunch will be served for workshop participants

Background
The 2030 Agenda reaffirms the wealth of evidence that ‘there can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development’. It also recognizes that good governance and strong and accountable institutions underpin development and peace-building efforts.

With the adoption of the 2030 Agenda in 2015, focus around the SDGs has now shifted largely towards implementation, particularly at the national and local level. It is time for our governments to implement the SDGs in a participatory manner, and crucially, to implement SDG16 and its targets. To help national-level civil society organizations understand the issues pertaining to SDG16, the TAP Network is pleased to host an SDG16 national advocacy training workshop at the 2017 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF).

The workshop will focus largely around the TAP Network’s Goal 16 Advocacy Toolkit and Advocacy: Justice and the SDGs.These advocacy toolkits are resources for stakeholders, particularly national level Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), to use in advocacy around the implementation and accountability for SDG16 and the broader 2030 Agenda. They provide detailed guidance on opportunities and entry points for working with governments and other local, regional or international stakeholders to support the planning, implementation, follow-up and accountability of SDG16 and justice-related commitments. The Goal 16 Advocacy Toolkit is available currently in seven languages (English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and Portuguese).

This Advocacy Training Workshop has the following objectives:

To explore relevant issues around SDG16 and justice, using the Goal 16 Advocacy Toolkit and Advocacy: Justice and the SDGs to help organisations engage with and utilize these resources in their own work at the national level.
To showcase case studies to share experiences from national-level civil society working in different contexts and regions.
To build and strengthen national-level networks and identify ongoing opportunities for national level collaboration around advocacy on SDG16.
To explore and discuss the TAP Network’s long-term approach and strategy for national-level capacity building.
