SUMMARY:Russian Film Night | The Magnitsky Act. Behind the Scenes
DESCRIPTION:interested in Russia, US-Russia relations, human rights, law, criminal drama, the issue of Russophobia, and the power of propaganda.

What started as a drama about a Russian police plot to steal a billion dollars from a US financier and to murder his faithful tax lawyer Sergei Magnitsky, has become a real-life investigation of contradicting versions of the crime. The Magnitsky Case is central to the Magnitsky Act, a law which imposed first US sanctions against Russia in 2012 and signaled the start of the downward spiral in US-Russia relations.

Shockingly for the film's director, dissident and Putin basher Andrei Nekrasov, the official Western narrative surrounding the Magnitsky Case turns out to have serious flaws.

This film screening is brought to you by the Russian-American Leadership Initiative (RALI) in partnership with the Russian Club at UW. Anyone interested in organizing a screening of this film at their university or college should contact RALI.
