DESCRIPTION:nationalist pride, often praised by Stalin himself. After a life of being censored and scrutinized, many believe his dissent of Stalin and the Soviet government are covertly woven throughout his music. His tenth symphony was written shortly after Stalin’s death. At times dark and brooding, at others blazing with relentless speed, Shostakovich described the work as a portrait of the dictator’s years in power.
