SUMMARY:Paved with Good Intentions?: Discontent and Resistance to China's One Belt, One Road (OBOR)
DESCRIPTION:in Russian, Eurasian, and Eastern European Studies and the Asian Studies programs and will focus on China’s “One Belt, One Road” (OBOR) initiatives and reactions from China’s neighbors. While forging ahead, OBOR is not always a welcome development to some Eurasian and Asian markets. Our bilateral faculty and student discussion panel will examine:1. How are some Eurasian and Asian governments, economies, and societies resisting OBOR? Why?
2. What alternatives have these particular countries sought otherwise?
3. Is Asia and Eurasia bound to reconnect, otherwise? Can it be done sustainably?
The event will consist of short remarks on this topic from Professors Roger Kangas and Irfan Nooruddin, followed by a question and answer session with the audience. Lunch will be provided beforehand. This event is open to all SFS graduate students, and requires the completion of Eventbrite registration.
