SUMMARY:Russian Foreign Policy: Domestic Sources and External Consequences
DESCRIPTION:Russia and its foreign policy. This panel on Russia and international politics evaluates internal and external drivers in Russian foreign policy. The panelists will address how the interaction of domestic politics in Russia and pressures from abroad – turbulence in world politics, existing and potential challenges from the Euro-Atlantic alliance, and serious challenges across Russia’s extensive borders – have produced serious and at time unexpected consequences for Russia and its adversaries.
Speakers and topics:
Dr. Yuval Weber, Daniel Morgan Graduate School -Kennan Institute Fellow  - What don't we know about Russian domestic politics that would be useful for US policy formulation? How are Russian actions and the general shift in international politics altering politics in ways we have not seen in a long time?
Dr. Steven Meyer, Academic Dean of Daniel Morgan Graduate School  - What is it about Russia’s and America’s past actions that have shaped Russian preferences, goals, and insecurities today?
Dr. B. Amarilis Lugo de Fabritz, Howard University, Professor of Russian Language and Culture - How do ethnic perceptions influence Russian foreign policy in the “Near Abroad” – Russia’s direct neighbors that previously formed the Soviet Union?
Mr. Anthony Lauren, MITRE Corporation - Many actions coming out of Russia seem alarming, but what is merely bothersome versus truly threatening in the realm of information operations?
