DESCRIPTION:Flying University is a re-education in hidden histories. This talk series is named after the underground university in Russian-occupied Poland that taught subjects banned by the state-run schools. This rebel organization also educated women, who were barred from attending the official university, including Marie Curie. In that spirit, each Flying University talk highlights a piece of history that has been “conveniently forgotten”. Lets set the record straight.

SPEAKER BIOS:
Andrea Swensson is an author, radio host, and music journalist. She hosts a weekly program about the Minnesota music scene, The Local Show, at Minnesota Public Radio’s 89.3 The Current and has contributed music journalism to NPR Music, City Pages, Mpls/St. Paul Magazine, and Paisley Park, where she has written several tour guide books for Prince’s museum. Her first book, Got to Be Something Here: The Rise of the Minneapolis Sound, traces the rise of that distinctive sound through two generations of political upheaval, rebellion, and artistic passion. It was released in October 2017 by the University of Minnesota Press.
Anil Dash is an entrepreneur, activist and writer recognized as one of the most prominent voices advocating for a more humane, inclusive and ethical technology industry. He is the CEO of Fog Creek Software, the renowned independent tech company behind Glitch, the friendly new community that helps anyone make the app of their dreams, as well as its past landmark products like Trello and Stack Overflow.
