SUMMARY:"Detroit's Own Polar Bears" Centennial Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Intervention in the Russian Civil War.Known as "Detroit's Own" during their training at Camp Custer, they adopted the Polar Bear as their insignia upon their departure from North Russia.Please join us on the centennial of their landing as we remember their service and sacrifice in the arctic wilderness of North Russia.  The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. with light refreshments while attendees have the opportunity to view displays that tell the story of individual "Polar Bears" through their uniform, medals, photograph and equipment.  As 7:00 p.m. approaches, we will move into the auditorium for a program that will include presentations, followed by a question and answer session.  Speakers will include Gordon L. Olson, James C. Nelson and Dr. Laura A. Kline, Ph.D.This free event is being organized by the Polar Bear Memorial Association and hosted by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM).  
Registration entitles you to a general admission seat in the auditorium, plus free parking in the adjacent BCBSM parking structure. If you need more than 4 tickets, please register again. If you have special seating needs, please contact the organizer in advance (see "FAQ", below), so that we will be prepared to accommodate you.If you need a hotel room, the event planning team recommends the Greektown Casino Hotel, which is located within walking distance to the auditorium.This event is listed on the U.S. National WW1 Centennial Events Register, where it will become part of the permanent national archive of WW1 Centennial activities.#BCBSM #WWI

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
Children 12 and older are welcome to register and attend, if accompanied by an adult.
 
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Show your printed ticket for free entry to the BCBSM parking structure, which can be accessed from E. Lafayette St. by turning south onto St. Antoine Street and proceeding beneath the overhead pedestrian walkway.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Yes, for parking in the BCBSM garage and entry into the BCBSM Whitmer Building.
