"LOVE ME, NY" Novel by Olya Schechter
Written by Olya Schechter
There have been many anecdotes about local “high society” socialites of the city. But there have not been many stories about Russian socialites of Manhattan. On the surface they are similar in many ways: glamorous life style, designer clothes and wealthy boyfriends. But in reality there are many veiled secrets that separate one from another. Sacrifices bigger then life itself are hidden behind the pretty façade of an alluring lifestyle of a Russian “glamour” girl. Olya Schechter is not the one to hide the truth. In a colorful and satirical tale LOVE ME, NY she writes about three Russian girls climbing up the social latter of Manhattan. The novel is full of charming sarcasm mixed with real feelings and blinding love.

The High Line is open!
Written by TONY
We’ve made it, people! The High Line (well, the first part) is finally open.
The basics: Section one of the High Line opens mid-June and is about a half mile long. There are five entry points, at Gansevoort, 14th, 16th, 18th and 20th Streets, with elevators at 14th and 16th Streets. For now, the only bathrooms will be at 16th Street, though a Gansevoort pit stop is planned. Capacity limits were yet to be solidified at press time, but given the space constraints, it’s reasonable to expect them. Tentative park hours: 7am–10pm.

MOVIES: "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"
Written by Sentinel

This was hauled as the year’s last great film.  Well, since 2008 didn’t have any great films to begin with, the description is probably fitting.  The problem is:  this movie is really bad.  Its overall poor quality is exacerbated by its incredible pretentiousness and a slew of cheap tearjerkers.  And it’s three hours long.  Three hours of nothing. Let’s capture the gist of this movie.  In the American South a child is born who is very different from others.

BOOKS: "Magic Chorus: History of Russian Culture of the XX Century" by Solomon Volkov
Written by Sentinel

THEATER: "Wicked" Review
Written by Sentinel

A joint review by Sentinel & Morgana Lefay. For the first time since visiting New York in 1998, we went to see a Broadway musical.  The one we selected was “Wicked,” based on the eponymous book by Gregory Maguire. Having just finished reading the novel about the history of the Emerald City of Oz before Dorothy (Ellie, to all of you «Волшебник Изумрудного Города» readers) has crushed in, we did not know what to expect of this musical.
