Zero to Infinity and Back Again

White’s talk follows how the shift from polytheism to monotheism, accompanied by the development of alphabets, written languages and a separate self, elevated the importance of the human mind and the powers of reason above the heart and emotions. Exercising dominion over the earth, fueled by the possibilities of profit and backed by church authority, cultures have crossed frontiers and defined the earth as having unlimited potential – laying the foundations for capitalism, globalization and exploitation of the earth’s natural resources. Using nature as a guide, his talk suggests that archetypes hold the key to maintaining order, balance and harmony – in the cosmos, culture and the personal self.  
Speaker Bio:
Dana C. White, PhD is an adjunct professor at Pacifica Graduate Institute in Carpinteria, CA, teaching Psyche & Nature and Dissertation Formulation. He has served on 28 completed doctoral dissertation committees as the faculty reader and is currently active on another 22 committees for students whose doctoral work is in progress.  After serving six years in the US Navy, three tours in Vietnam, he worked at a progressive rock radio station for several years before attending Occidental College. He subsequently entered the first class of USC’s Annenberg School for Communication, receiving an MA in Communications Management. He spent the better part of his career as a producer, media designer, and creative artist. He completed his PhD in Mythological Studies at Pacifica in 2003 and very soon after became adjunct faculty at Pacifica. He designs and produces books under the imprint of Copper Cauldron, among them Cultivating the Still Point: Buddhism and Christianity through the Lens of Depth Psychology, a collaboration with Dr. Joseph Bogorad, and The Mythic Moment Trilogy, a collaboration with Dr. F. Gard Jameson. He is currently in production on a book about the art and wisdom of the Russian artist and mystic Nicholas Roerich, whose statue is in the corner of the library of the University of Philosophical Research. The book on Roerich will be printed this summer. Together with Dr. Will Linn, he puts on a monthly Myth Salon where scholars, scientists, philosophers, artists, and educators make presentations.
