Brunch and Learn: Russian Romani Dance

Our very first Brunch & Learn of 2017 will be on January 22 at 10 am. Brunch and learns are workshops for all ages and levels. It is an opportunity to learn something new that is not readily available or accessible. The workshops are capped off with conversation and a potluck brunch.
Viktoria Mytling will lead a 2 hour workshop on Russian Romani Dance. Viktoria grew up dancing Russian Roma (Gypsy) in her native Russia. Her journey as a dancer encompasses Oriental Dance, Kalbelia, Spanish Gypsy and Argentine Tango as she continues to explore various dance forms that enable her to translate music into motion. She is a performer, a teacher and an eternal student of dance.
Viktoria will talk about the unique nature of Ruska Roma, or Russian Gypsy, dance in that it had a significant impact on Russian "high culture" - classical music, art and literature. Participants will also practice some of the mesmerizing movements of the dance which entertained audiences from the Russian imperial court to Parisian cabarets.
Attendance limited to the first 15 folks who RSVP. A $5 donation is suggested to help cover the cost of the studio.
