Event Details

Performing an entirely different program from their December concert, the Aryalokans are *back in the USSR* (in a manner of speaking) to bring you the idyllic, lush melodies from Borodin's String Quartet No. 2 (whose "Nottorno" movement was used in the 1953 Broadway musical, "Kismet') in contrast with Shostakovich's stark, at times harrowing, politically subversive commentary of his 8th string quartet, which was dedicated to the victims of Fascism and war and which was said to be the composer's most personal expression of dissent against Stalin's totalitarian regime.

We open the program with an highly unique Haydn quartet (Op. 54, No. 2) that features an improvisatory, cantor-like slow movement which some have nicknamed, "The Rabbi."
