Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy (Parts 3-4)

book Completed in 1877, Anna Karenina tells the story of the fall of a high-society woman after she commits adultery with a dashing young cavalry officer. Above all, the novel explores what it means to be happy, as introduced by its famous opening lines: "All happy families are alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way." Translation: I really like the P&V translation, while the older Constance Garnett translation remains popular to this day (and it's available for free). The most recent translations include Rosamund Bartlett and Marian Schwartz, also with strong reviews.
