2016 election controversy and the Mueller probe.

James Asher currently works for The Associated Press in Washington, directing the coverage of special counsel Robert Mueller’s inquiry of President Trump and Russian meddling in the 2016 election. 
Earlier, he was the Washington Bureau Chief for the McClatchy Company and spent a year as the Washington editor for an investigative nonprofit organization, Injustice Watch.
His work on the worldwide Panama Papers investigation with a team at McClatchy was awarded the 2017 Pulitzer Prize in Journalism for Explanatory Reporting. McClatchy shared that award with the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists and The Miami Herald.
A native of Utica, N.Y., Asher has worked for five newspapers on the East Coast, including The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Baltimore Sun. On four other occasions, investigations he directed and edited in Washington, D.C. and in Baltimore were selected as Pulitzer Prize finalists. He is the recipient of numerous other national journalism awards.
Asher holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from Syracuse University and did postgraduate work in finance and economics in the MBA program at Temple University.
