Russians Tackling Corruption in Russia: Challenges and Opportunities BBL

Guiding Questions:
From the perspective of TI Russia, what are the exact mechanisms that allow Russian corruption to affect a) its neigbours b) democracies around the world c) the US.
What's so special about Russian corruption? What impact are US sanctions having on anti-corruption efforts in Russia?  What can affected parties both inside and outside the country do to minimize damage / strike back/ get over Russian corruption?How has TI organized itself in Russia to tackle those issues? What are the challenges?

Mr. Anton Pominov:
Mr. Pominov joined Transparency International’s national chapter in Russia (Transparency International– R) in 2008. Before taking on the role of executive director for the organization in 2014, he served as research director and launched and led a number of online projects at the chapter.  He is an Expert of the Council of Europe since 2014 and lectures on a variety of topic corruption topics in his capacity as co-founder, in 2009, of the Laboratory of Anti-Corruption Policy at the National Research University in Moscow.

Prior to his work with TI, he worked with online media, web development teams, market research and banking. He has volunteered for a number of environmental and human rights organisations, contributing to the launch of several civic campaigns and initiatives.

Mr. Matthew Murray:
Matthew Murray was appointed by President Ashraf Ghani as the new International Member of the Independent Joint Anti-Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Committee of Afghanistan in December 2017.  In January 2017, Mr. Murray completed a 5-year appointment to the Obama Administration, in which he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at the Department of Commerce and Senior Advisor on Governance and the Rule of Law at the Agency for International Development. In 2000, Mr. Murray co-founded the Center for Business Ethics & Corporate Governance, an NGO that engaged Russian and U.S. government agencies, multilateral organizations, and private sector and civil society leaders in public-private initiatives to create building blocks of a market economy.
