ABOUT Kathleen Hall Jamieson
Kathleen Hall Jamieson is the Elizabeth Ware Packard Professor of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication, the Walter and Leonore Director of the university’s Annenberg Public Policy Center, and Program Director of the Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands.
Jamieson has authored or co-authored 16 books, most recently Cyberwar: How Russian Hackers and Trolls Helped Elect a President, published in October 2018 by Oxford University Press. Five of the books that Jamieson has authored or co-authored have received a total of eight political science or communication book awards (Packaging the Presidency, Eloquence in an Electronic Age, Spiral of Cynicism, Presidents Creating the Presidency, and The Obama Victory.) She recently co-edited The Oxford Handbook of Political Communication and The Oxford Handbook of the Science of Science Communication.
Jamieson’s work has been funded by the FDA and the MacArthur, Ford, Carnegie, Pew, Robert Wood Johnson, Packard, and Annenberg Foundations. She is the co-founder of FactCheck.org and its subsidiary site, SciCheck, and director of The Sunnylands Constitution Project, which has produced more than 30 award-winning films on the Constitution for high school students.
Jamieson is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Political and Social Science, and the International Communication Association, and a past president of the American Academy of Political and Social Science.

ABOUT Sonia Stupniker Isard (September 7, 1909 ~ May 18, 2000)
The Sonia Stupniker Isard Lecture was established in 1991 by Dr. Harold J. Isard (F’51) in honor of his wife, Dr. Sonia Stupniker (F’73). The inaugural lecture was held in 1993.
Sonia Stupniker Isard was born in the Ukraine and immigrated to the United States from Palestine at age 13. She attended Girls High and Gratz College, and in 1934 graduated from Temple University School of Medicine, where she met and married her classmate, Dr. Harold J. Isard, who later became one of Philadelphia's top radiologists. With firmness, humor, and professional excellence, she won a place in a discipline that accepted very few women in her time. Her great academic and professional success is even more impressive in light of the fact that she came to the United States without understanding the English language. Dr. Stupniker became a prominent physician associated with Albert Einstein Medical Center for more than 60 years. She specialized in allergies and pursued further study to become certified in the field, and later served as President of the Philadelphia Allergy Society. She maintained a private practice in allergy and immunology until her retirement in 1991. After retiring from practice, she continued to write for the Einstein staff newsletter, providing literary criticism, social commentary and lessons from her professional experiences.
A Fellow and strong supporter of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, she was also a Fellow of the American College of Allergists. Dr. Stupniker was a member of the American Academy of Allergy, the Pennsylvania Allergy Society, the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania State Medical Society and the Philadelphia Medical Society. She was a charter member and President of the Maimonides Society, for which she also served as editor of its journal. In 1993, she and Dr. Isard received the Physician Leadership Award from the Albert Einstein Society.
