What advantage does the advisor have in the marketplace? Its how does an advisor applies the information to craft a strategy that addresses the prospect/client’s unique objectives.  Implementation of the product becomes a natural next step.  The time is spent on the strategy, not defending the product.  You’ve changed the conversation from product based, to strategy based.   If you create the strategy, you own the strategy.  As the prospect/client implements the strategy, the advisor now ‘owns’ the client for a lifetime relationship.  
So what’s a differentiated strategy that few people talk about and even fewer know what to do about?  Charitable planning.  Planned giving strategies, or ‘philanthropic phinancing’, properly used complements a financial or estate plan.  The session starts with a discussion on the basic foundation of effective charitable planning, the concept of ‘Social Capital’. Continuing on, it will cover reviews of all the strategies, from bequests, gift annuities, remainder trust, lead trust, private foundation, donor advised funds, and life insurance gifts. 
Many presentations stop there at the review of strategies, but how does an advisor now use that knowledge to increase sales?  How does an advisor market their new found knowledge?  How does an advisor market one’s knowledge to allied professionals, e.g., accountants, lawyers, investment advisors?  How does an advisor leverage relationships with nonprofit organizations? How does an advisor have a ‘follow the money’ referral discussion with existing clients?

As a Financial Advisor with Morgan Stanley, Paul has over 30 years experience in financial services. He received his MBA from Rutgers University prior to earning certificates including: CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM, (CFP®), Charter Financial Consultant®, (ChFC®), Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy®, (CAP®), and Chartered Life Underwriter®, (CLU®). Paul has a diverse background in financial and estate planning as he has worked at Lutheran Brotherhood, Fidelity Investments and Merrill Lynch Trust Company prior to coming to Morgan Stanley.
At Merrill Lynch, he was a Senior Philanthropic Consultant assisting Financial Advisors design charitable strategies for their clients. Additionally, he spent 12 years as host, and co-producer, a cable show he created, You and Your Money, which was broadcast throughout New Jersey. Paul is a member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, the Estate Planning Council of New York City, the Society of Trust and Estate Practioners, the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, New Jersey Association of Fundraising Professionals and the New York State Society of CPAs.
He has been an Associate Trustee of the Sigma Pi Educational Foundation, and board member of the Gift Planning Council of New Jersey.  Vlad Portnoy, J.D.
Vlad is an attorney in New York City specializing in Wills, Trusts & Estates, Elder Law (including Medicaid and Disability planning, and Guardianships). As a native Russian speaker, Mr. Portnoy is certified by the New York State Court System as a Russian-speaking court translator.
Mr. Portnoy is a member of the Elder Law and Trusts & Estates sections of New York State Bar Association, American Bar Association's Estate Planners and Administrators Section, and New York City Bar Association. Vlad is a former member of New York City Bar Association's Trusts, Estates and Surrogate's Court Committee, and former Secretary of the NYCBA's Committee on Legal Problems of the Aging (Elder Law). Vlad is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey and in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He serves on the Board of Russian Speaking Business Attorneys of New York (RUSBAN), as well as Boards of several businesses and non-profit organizations. Through frequent lectures on estate planning and elder law, and by contributing articles to various English and Russian language print and online publications, Vlad Portnoy aims to educate the community on all aspects of estate planning and asset protection ranging from government benefit entitlement programs to high net worth individuals and family offices.
