Sunken Forest, Fire Island

The beach is a short distance away, along the main boardwalk, which is bordered on the west by the Sunken Forest. The ancient history of Fire Island is alive at the Sunken Forrest, an enchanted 300-year-old primeval holly forest, which is the only one of its kind on the East Coast. The Sunken Forest Nature Trail is a 1.6-mile loop that is half paved and half boardwalk.
