NABJ Pulitzer Center-Global Journalism Task Force Co-branded Reception

The Pulitzer Center funds international travel costs for reporting projects covering regions and topics of global importance, with an emphasis on under-reported issues in the mainstream American media. Grants are open year-round to all journalists; staff journalists as well as freelancers of any nationality are eligible to apply.

1. On-site Pitching Sessions With Pulitzer Center Senior Editor Tom Hundley
Pulitzer Center senior editor, Tom Hundley, will be accepting in-person pitches from prospective grantees. Freelance and staff journalists and editors working from any platform are welcome to pitch international reporting projects. Please sign up for a 20-minute time slot using this link. 2. Panel: How journalists can cover international affairs from America
From our trade relationship with China to accusations of Russian meddling with the 2016 election, Americans depend on the media the information they need to understand our relationships with other nations. But with shuttered overseas bureaus and shrinking travel budgets, fewer journalists are able to report from foreign datelines.
This workshop, organized by the Global Journalism Task Force and the Pulitzer Center, will bring together journalists who have been covering the world from America with NABJ members who want to report on international affairs but may not be able to go abroad themselves. We will explore how reporters and engage their communities to report important local angles to international stories as well as how editors can use stringers, freelancers, and academic experts to give their readers a better understanding of the world we share. The workshop will also touch on resources and opportunities for those who want to get their feet wet in international reporting through short assignments and fellowships. Participants:

3. Panel: Making the Pitch: How to Land Grants and Reporting Fellowships
Newsroom cutbacks mean more journalists are pursuing nontraditional paths to report on important stories and to develop their careers. This workshop will help journalists of color develop the skills and confidence to get grants or fellowships. We'll show how to craft the perfect pitch, draft budgets and other requirements.
