AnonymousProjekts announces the release of Happy Clinic’s debut album, Memory Mound. Critically-acclaimed writer/pianist Stefan Sullivan has teamed up on this debut effort with veteran Berlin drummer and Tiger Lillies soundman, Claus Buehler, on a lyric-driven romp through after-hours madness. Recorded in Germany’s Black Forest, each song tells a true story straight out of Happy Clinic frontman Stefan’s stranger-than-fiction, globetrotting life. Trust fund Lolitas, ebony divas and fat sex tourists all parade on through – in Bangkok, Moscow, Paris and London. With broody deadpan vocals layered over a comically inventive soundwall, some say it sounds like Lou Reed and The Bloodhound Gang formed an unlikely union. In Berlin, the DJ’s are calling it 21st century electro punk cabaret. Add some Teutonic (Fassbinder-y) nods to the dark absurd - Nightcaps with a predatory dwarf? Monkey spanking in Paris? - and you get perhaps the most dense and demented debut album of the season. ABOUT THE ARTISTS: Stefan Sullivan Frontman/lyricist Stefan Sullivan has spent many a late night piano-pounding in seedy bars and swanky lounges in places as diverse as Paris, Siberian oil country, Bangkok and even rural Illinois. Armed with a lust for quixotic adventure (as well as an Oxford PhD on Hegel and Jesus) Sullivan has enjoyed many years as a world traveler and critically acclaimed writer. Sullivan’s highly acclaimed debut novel, Sibirischer Schwindel (Eichborn/Frankfurt, 2002) was selected by Hans Magnus Enzensberger (Germany`s eminence gris of poetry) for his prestige series Die Andere Bibliothek. It also won a Discovery Award at the Hollywood Film Festival and 20 best novels of the year, Hamburg City Library (2001). Along with Gary Shteyngart`s Russian Debutante`s Handbook it is considered one of the seminal Russia expat novels of the 1990s. His second book, Marx for a Post-Communist Era: On Poverty, Corruption and Banality, (Routledge/London) was released in 2002.
Claus Buehler Happy Clinic beatmeister/bassist is currently sound designer on The Tiger Lillies` world tour, the British alt-cabaret act with a global cult following. Other music/composer credits include the show WeltTraum 2001, backing tracks for world champion juggler Diabolo Juggling Genius Martin Mall, as well as acoustic logos and trailers for television and advertising. A veteran drummer and bassist on the Berlin acid jazz/trip hop scene, including Zone Six, Tobe, and the legendary Delicious Doughnut releases, he found considerable download success with his 1998 solo track, Oh, Baby Yeah, in which an inflatable doll slaughters her owner. He is based in the Black Forest of Germany.
